Suwanee-based technology executive Alwyn Joseph has received the Daily Point of Light Award for his volunteer leadership through Abundance Kitchen, a nonprofit addressing food, clothing, and educational needs among underserved children and families in India.
Joseph, a first-generation immigrant from India, began volunteering during his engineering school years and continued supporting individuals with education expenses and employment needs after moving to the United States. During India’s COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, he rallied friends to fund monthly grocery packages for nearly 3,000 families whose livelihoods had been disrupted.
In 2023, Joseph co-founded Abundance Kitchen with longtime friend Clement Barnabas. The volunteer-led organization serves approximately 45 slums and villages in Tamil Nadu, providing weekend meals for children, distributing clothing and school supplies, and developing vocational training plans to help young people gain skills in tailoring, electrical work, and plumbing.
Barnabas, who lives among the communities the organization supports, helps identify local needs and coordinate assistance. Joseph personally covers many overhead expenses. According to Abundance Kitchen, at least 95 percent of donations go toward beneficiaries.
The organization aims to reach one million lives by 2035, with the hope that children receiving assistance will eventually return as volunteers, mentors, and supporters.
