A delegation from the Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board (KSBDB), led by its chairman, S.E. Sudheendra, who holds cabinet rank, held an hour-long meeting with Dr. Sumit Seth, Consul General of India in Atlanta, in the first week of September. The meeting explored bioenergy and clean-fuel collaboration between Karnataka and the Atlanta region.
At the meeting, held at the Consulate General of India in Atlanta, the delegation presented KSBDB’s multi-feedstock, decentralized bioenergy model, which is built on community participation and sustainable biomass-to-fuel supply chains. It identified alignment with ongoing Atlanta-region initiatives, including the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities-Georgia coalition, the I-75 Clean Corridor Programme, and forestry-residue-to-fuel conversion efforts. The Center for Transportation and the Environment was identified as a potential technical and research partner.
Dr. Seth welcomed the proposal for collaboration between Karnataka and Georgia. Proposed next steps included a possible memorandum of understanding or knowledge-exchange arrangement, technical exchange visits between Clean Cities-Georgia and KSBDB teams, and joint work on forestry-residue conversion and carbon capture.
The discussion also covered the importance of global longevity and well-being models, with reference to the Blue Zone concept exemplified by Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. Dr. Seth discussed how rigorous testing standards contribute to the higher cost of American produce and products.
Sudheendra also emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora in Atlanta, and Dr. Seth agreed.
KSBDB extended an invitation to host an Atlanta delegation in Karnataka to continue the dialogue.
The other delegation members were Dr. Shiju Sebastian, adviser to the chairman; Alkesh Kanya Lal Patel; Vinod Ishwar Bhai Patel; BhikaBhai Patel; Sarbjit Singh; Prashanth Veerabomma; and B.K. Lokesh Gowda, additional private secretary to the chairman.
