Vedika Patel Named Georgia Winner in National American Heroes Student Art Contest

Vedika Patel, a student at Arcado Elementary School in Lilburn, was selected as Georgia’s state winner in the elementary school category of the national American Heroes Student Art Contest for her artwork, “First Footprints on the Moon,” honoring astronaut Neil Armstrong.

The contest was held as part of the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, encouraging young artists to explore American history through the lives and achievements of individuals who helped shape the nation.

Organized by Freedom 250 in partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the nationwide contest invited students to create original artwork and artist statements depicting American heroes who will be featured in the National Garden of American Heroes. More than 1,000 entries were submitted from across the country.

Patel competed in the elementary school division for students in grades 3 through 5. Her winning artwork was among more than 130 state and territory winners selected nationwide and exhibited at the American Canvas Pavilion during the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C.

As a state winner, Patel received an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., with one parent invited to accompany her. State and territory winners were recognized during an awards ceremony on July 8 at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Whitten Patio Atrium. Second Lady Usha Vance, who was among the judges for the national competition, delivered the keynote address.
