At this year’s State K-12 Invention Convention held in March at Georgia Tech, Raaga Sundar, a senior at McIntosh High School in Fayetteville, GA, won first place overall and the Iron CAD Award for 3D printed aluminum for Martian Rovers. She will represent Georgia in the national competition this June. Also, Aadi Vaidya, a junior at the same school, won the Patent Award for TremorTech: A Parkinson’s Glove. It was inspired by his grandfather who has Parkinson’s disease. The glove, which has received wide recognition, helps wearers by reducing the tremors they experience as a result of the disease.
Georgia Tech created the K-12 awards to foster the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs by making invention education accessible to all students and teachers in the state. The competition challenges students to identify real-world problems and design novel solutions through careful analysis, creativity, and the scientific method. More than 100 teams participated in the Georgia Tech contest this year.
