Dr. Sreeni Gangasani has assumed office as Vice President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin following AAPICON 2026 in Tampa. Elected with overwhelming member support, Dr. Gangasani is on the leadership track to serve as President-Elect in 2027-28 and President in 2028-29.
AAPICON 2026 brought together more than 1,100 physicians and healthcare leaders from across the United States. One of the highlights of the convention was the presentation of the AAPI Humanitarian Award to Nita Ambani in recognition of her humanitarian work.
Dr. Gangasani’s AAPI journey spans decades of service. He has served as Regional Director, a member of the Board of Trustees, and chairman of national conventions and global health summits in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
A cardiologist who has cared for Metro Atlanta patients for more than 25 years, Dr. Gangasani will also open ACG Heart & Vascular in Lawrenceville this August. The independent cardiovascular practice, named Amma in honor of his late mother, will offer state-of-the-art preventive and cardiac care to the region.
A central focus of Dr. Gangasani’s AAPI leadership will be increasing awareness of cardiovascular disease among South Asians, who face a risk of heart disease three to four times higher than the general population and often experience heart attacks and sudden cardiac death at younger ages. He plans to promote the importance of early detection and preventive cardiac care throughout the South Asian community.
Dr. Gangasani also serves as a member and past chair of the Georgia Composite Medical Board, a member of the Federation of State Medical Boards, and founder and medical director of the GAPI SEWA Volunteer Free Clinic, which he established in 2010. Through the clinic, he has provided free healthcare to uninsured patients in Gwinnett County for more than 16 years.
