A sensational performance from 14-year- old Vaibhav Suryavanshi lifted India over England in the Under-19 World Cup final. Vaibhav scored 175 runs off just 80 balls, producing the highest score ever recorded in an ICC tournament final, including men’s or women’s, junior and senior level. His tally in the Harare, Zimbabwe, final included 15 sixes, breaking his own record of 14 for a youth one-day international (ODI) innings. The left-handed batsman, who debuted last April for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League and became the youngest player to score a century in the IPL, was selected as the Player of the Tournament.
“I can’t express what I am feeling, but the way we have all been working hard for the last seven to eight months and our support staff who have been with us for a long time and always made sure we are all right, I would like to dedicate the award to them,” Vaibhav said after the match.
