The Great Grand Superhero

In an industry currently obsessed with violence, The Great Grand Superhero comes as a welcome breath of fresh air. It is not just a kiddie film but a wholesome family entertainer which the adults will enjoy just as much.
The intelligent and imaginative Dipu (Mihir Godbole), in an attempt to make friends in a new school, cooks up a story that his grandfather (Jackie Shroff) is a secret superhero on a mission to save the planet from aliens. The twist comes when Dadaji claims he is indeed a superhero, though an out of practice one! The fun begins when real aliens appear. Will Dadaji save the day?
Jackie Shroff brings warmth, humor, and gravitas to the role of the reluctant, potbellied grandfather. The writing smartly incorporates his real life plant-loving persona, adding authenticity. The bunch of child actors, led by Mihir Godbole and his buddy Laddoo, played by Shivansh Chorge, deserve a solid shoutout. The two aliens, Saharsh Shukla and Kumar Saurabh, dressed in pink kurta pyjama and sporting funky sunglasses, are a hoot. Bhagyashree has a powerful cameo. Prateik Smita Patil as the antagonist is not menacing enough.
Though the first half masterfully blends fantasy and reality, the narrative loses some of its magic and pacing as it transitions into the second half, which is replete with preachy messages. Also, the climax fight sequences and some visual effects look patchy.
The drawbacks notwithstanding, this sci-fi adventure comedy needs to be watched as it tells us that childhood imagination isn’t childish — it’s the original superpower!
