Drishyam: The Conclusion
Starring: Ajay Devgn, Jaideep Ahlawat, Tabu, ShriyaSaran, Ishita Dutta
Director: Abhishek Pathak
Music Directors: Ravi Basrur, Rochak Kohli, Karma
Unlike the first two instalments, this film is not a remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam original. Instead, it features an original Hindi
script written to give the hit franchise a definitive finale. Drishyam 3 may not reinvent the game but it knows exactly how to keep you playing along, immersing you in the tense and thrilling mouse-and-cat dynamic.
As the Sameer Deshmukh case reopens, new SP Crime Branch Rajveer Singh Tomar (Jaideep Ahlawat) finds a forensic loophole in the old evidence and puts Vijay Salgaonkar’s (Ajay Devgn) entire family — his wife Nandini (Shriya Saran) and daughters Anju (Ishita Dutta) and Anu (Mrunal Jadhav) — back in the dock, with Meera Deshmukh (Tabu) as a key witness. While the first half is fast-paced and gripping, the second half turns into a courtroom thriller with clever twists. Some twists, however, feel a little too conveniently placed.
The film benefits greatly by the inclusion of Jaideep Ahlawat in the ensemble cast. Ahlawat’s commanding, menacing presence and fiery swagger serve as the perfect foil to Ajay Devgn’s calculated silence and deadpan facade. In fact, the intense face-off between these two talented actors is the highlight of the movie. Kamlesh Sawant returns as the iconic sub-inspector Laxmikant Gaitonde, a character you love to hate! What’s more, his wry jokes provide the much needed comic relief. Tabu, adding emotional weight to the narrative, is terrific as always. Prakash Raj is solid as public prosecutor Shetty.
Though not perfect, Drishyam: The Conclusion is a worthy end to the Salgaonkar saga. An absolute must-watch for fans of the franchise.
