Letters from Readers

Winds of Disruption or Dysfunction?

Nothing was more certain in this Presidential election:
the winds of disruption were stronger than the
currents of status quo. However, wish as we might, the
populist tsunami that Trump tapped into and surfed to
victory will not so quickly settle back into a more rational,
national skepticism in the name of accountability.
Zealots will not soon forgive or forget perceived or real
conditions, threats and biases against them, their beliefs,
or their candidates. Will the office change Trump,
or Trump change the office? Is Trump the rare leader
who can brush aside populist mandates, and campaign
paper tigers when reality bites? My fingers are crossed.
Hope springs eternal amid staffing turmoil, media
shills and shrills, and tweet twerking. Yet, it is perhaps
more realistic to have faith in, and hope that our republic
of checks and balances remain intact and in full
force. Of course, each of us must also be tuned in and
proactively engaged, as you suggest (“The People andthe Presidency,” March editorial).

The Trump and Modi Show

Extremely well-articulated article (Prof. TinazPavri’s March cover story) to learn about the history and
implications of Indo-American relations over the years
leading up to the present. It will be very interesting
to watch how this relationship develops under
Trump. Hope it is not as erratic, unpredictable, irrational,
and crazy based on late night or early morning
Twitts by Trump.
