December 10, 1924—An organization called the Friends
of Freedom for India holds a dinner in New York City.
The group was affiliated with the Gadar Party, another
activist group that worked towards India’s independence.
Friends of Freedom for India was led by the American
journalist Agnes Smedley and Indian nationalist
Sailendranath Ghose. Their mission was “to maintain
the right of asylum for political refugees from India” and
“to present the case for the independence of India.”
