India “mesmerized” by Bill Clinton
Snapshots from Indian-American history
THIS MONTH THAT YEAR
March 20, 2000—President Bill Clinton and his family make a trip to India to improve ties.
His six-day trip included visits to Delhi, Jaipur, Agra, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. When he spoke to the Indian Parliament, he received a standing ovation. ‘‘India is mesmerized by Clinton,’’ the novelist Shobha De told The New York Times. “‘He’s cast a spell. Even the sanest of people have lost their reason.”
