MOVIE UPDATE August 2002
Ram Gopal Varma?s new film starring Urmila Matondkar and Ajay Devgan is titled Bhoot (Ghost). Urmila Matondkar and Manoj Bajpai meanwhile are coming together in Pinjar, which is inspired by a novel written by Jnanpith Award winner Amrita Pritam. Directed by Dr Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, the unusual movie is about a rape victim becoming attracted to her rapist. Another forthcoming Ramu production Road, directed by Rajat Mukherjee, starring Manoj Bajpai, Vivek Oberoi and Antara Mali, is slated for release on August 23. Meanwhile, Manoj has been signed to play the main lead in an Indo-Canadian venture. The film titled Indigo will be made in English and will star the famous Canadian actress Sarah Polley.
Sohail Khan?s Maine Dil Tujhko Diya which was to release in July has been postponed to August 2 and it will probably clash with Kaante, which releases the same day. Kaante reportedly could also be pushed further to August 9 or 16. Yash Chopra?s Mujhse Dosti Karoge starring Hrithik Roshan, Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor, is slated for an August 9 release.
Anant Mahadevan-directed Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, a love story woven around the songs of legendary music composer RD Burman, is also scheduled to be released in August.
After Aks, adman turned director Rakesh Mehra is ready to launch his next project with Abhishek Bachchan in the lead. Titled Samjhauta Express, the film is a light-hearted take on Indo-Pak relations. Besides Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala, the film also features Amitabh in a ?very special? appearance.
Naseeruddin Shah has bagged a role opposite Sean Connery in Stephen Norrington?s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. He was selected over ?Bad Man? Gulshan Grover for this role.
