Salman pays ‘deerly'
Salman Khan paid ‘deerly' for hunting the Chinkara deer a few years back --- he was sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment on April 10 and spent three traumatic days and nights in the Jodhpur Central Jail. The prayers of millions of the superbrat's fans, however, bore fruit as he walked out a free man after he was granted bail on April 13. And in true Sallu fashion, he flung his T-shirt amidst the frenzied crowds. Apart from his family, the only person to visit him in jail was girlfriend Katrina Kaif. So Ms Kaif can no longer hide the fact that she is the special person in Salman's life. Back in Mumbai, Salman's mother took ill and was admitted in hospital. And guess who paid her a visit there. None other than Viveik Oberoi. Well, is this Viveik's way of making up with Salman in his hour of need?
The next hearing in the poaching case has been fixed for June 19.
Shah Rukh Khan goes sporty
Shah Rukh Khan will soon be seen on screen wielding a hockey stick. Yes, the actor will play a coach of a girls' hockey team in a film that is said to be inspired by Gurinder Chadha's Bend it Like Beckham. Scripted by Jaideep Shani and directed by Shimit Amit, the movie is sure to take SRK back to his college days --- he apparently loved the sport of hockey as a youth. And after much speculation, it is now confirmed that Shah Rukh is also doing a film with Ram Gopal Varma. And no, it's not the much talked about modern version of Sholay. Apparently, they are in talks for a futuristic film together, which will start in the second half of 2006. Now how did RGV convince SRK to do this film? He simply said Na bolna mana hai!
Incidentally, Bollywood-inspired comic books are the latest trend that are all set for distribution in India and abroad and in what looks to be India's answer to Archie, a teenage look-alike of SRK plays a regular college kid with two femme fatales who bear a strong resemblance to Aishwarya Rai and Rani Mukherjee. The story is aptly titled The Naughty Lover.
Hrithik becomes a proud papa
The entire Roshan family is on cloud nine. Hrithik and his beautiful wife Suzanne have become the proud parents of a bonny baby boy. So Duggu dear has grown up at last. "I'm still a child myself, how can I father a child," he'd remarked a few years back. But now the new father has matured to the extent that he's already decided that he wants his son to be called Rayhaan. Grandfather Rakesh Roshan, however, doesn't quite like his son's choice and is busy consulting numerologists. So an intra-family feud there? Well, it just proves that there's lots in a name.
Meanwhile, another couple (though not married) were blessed with a child. Leander Paes' and Rhea Pillai's love child was born on April 3. For those of you who may have forgotten, the beautiful and spiritual Rhea is Sanjay Dutt's estranged wife and the tennis ace had a bitter parting with Mahima Choudhury sometime back.
Hema ropes in good friend Rekha
Hema Malini is all charged up these days, and she has double reason to be so. The lady is excited about the fact that she will soon direct her good friend Rekha and also her daughter Esha in the same film. "It is a movie based on a cultural conflict with classical music in the background. It is a very different story about the relationship that grows between two women from different generations," says Hema, who wants Aby's baby to play the lead opposite Esha. "It is the role of a modern boy with a classical temperament. I can't think of anyone but Abhishek who'll suit the role." Meanwhile, Hema and Esha are slated to play mother and daughter in another film very soon, though no details are available yet.
Incidentally, the evergreen diva Rekha is much in demand these days. Kalpana Lajmi wants her and Priyanka Chopra to act in her next movie about devdasis. Whether they sign on the dotted line remains to be seen.
Goldie Hawn in Mumbai
Guess who came to Anil Kapoor's house for dinner recently? Well, none other than his dear friend, Hollywood actress Goldie Hawn. Goldie had a great time hobnobbing with Anil's other invitees, including brother and sister-in-law Boney and Sridevi, the original dhak-dhak girl Madhuri Dixit and the reigning queen of Bollywood, Rani Mukherjee. Apparently, Goldie struck a special rapport with US-based Madhuri. Grapevine has it that Goldie's Mumbai visit wasn't just a friendly one. Sources close to Anil say that there is a business deal in the offing between Anil and Goldie's production houses.
Goldie had also visited the Dalai Lama with Hollywood actor Richard Gere on one of her earlier trips to India. "India has always been one of my favourite places where I come to seek peace and tranquillity," said she.
