Every year, for its lists of who’s up and who’s down in India Inc.’s pecking order, The Economic Times teams up with IMRB International and conducts in-depth surveys.
So what happened in 2012? First, Emory University’s Jagdish Sheth is a top 10 global Indian thought leader (go to the Community Newsmakers column on page 122 for more on this list). Also, see the table on the left for the top 10 global Indian business leaders.
Next, India Inc.’s top 10 CEOs are as follows: 1. Ratan Tata (Tata Sons), 2. Mukesh Ambani (Reliance Industries), 3. Kumar Mangalam Birla (The Aditya Birla Group), 4. Azim Premji (Wipro), 5. Chanda Kochhar (ICICI Bank), 6. Deepak Parekh (HDFC), 7. A. M. Naik (Larsen &Toubro), 8. Anand Mahindra (Mahindra Group), 9. Adi Godrej (Godrej Group) and 10. K.V. Kamath (Infosys).
And the top 10 women CEOs in India are as follows: 1. Chanda Kochhar (ICICI Bank), 2. Kiran Shaw (Biocon), 3. Shobhana Bhartia (HT Media), 4. Shikha Sharma (Axis Bank), 5. Naina Lal Kidwai (HSBC India), 6. Kalpana Morparia (J.P. Morgan India), 7. Neelam Dhawan (Hewlett- Packard India), 8. Mallika Srinivasan (TAFE), 9. Preetha Reddy (Apollo Hospitals) and 10. Roopa Kudva (CRISIL).
The selection and ranking was based, in a nutshell, on the following six parameters: 1. Leadership, 2. Strategy and Innovation, 3. Performance, 4. Stature, 5. Social contribution/Sustainability and 6. Governance.
