WHAT THEY WON
The year is only three months old, but we’ve already seen a bunch of prizewinners receiving generous sums of money.
Pankaj Mishra (nonfiction) and Nadeem Aslam (fiction) were among the eight winners of Yale’s Windham Campbell prize, with each getting $150,000.
Joseph Paulraj of Stanford received the $100,000 Marconi Prize for his pioneering work involving MIMO (multiple input, multiple output).
Two physicians—Abraham Verghese, also a novelist, and Sanjeev Arora—were among the five recipients of the Heinz Award, the others being social entrepreneur Leila Janah, educator and entrepreneur Salman Khan, and environmentalist Jonathan Foley. Each received $250,000.
