Appropriately, Foursquare has gained wider recognition via another GPS. As fans of Fareed Zakaria would note, this GPS—short for Global Public Square, not Global Positioning System—is the title of a weekly current events program he hosts on CNN. In a recent special called “Restoring the American Dream,” Zakaria introduced Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai, the founders of Foursquare, as examples of the entrepreneurs America needs if it is serious about “getting back to number one.”
Launched in 2009, Foursquare has grown at breakneck speed and has over 6.5 million users. Outside the U.S., Foursquare has managed to catch on in Brazil and parts of Africa and Europe. For the digital age, is there a good way to boil down what it’s about?

So one can use Foursquare not just to connect with friends, but also to explore nearby dining, entertainment and shopping options. In 2010, AOL Small Business included Crowley and Selvadurai in its list of New Young Millionaires.
