BIENNIAL MAKING DEBUT IN INDIA
February 2012
Get ready for India’s first biennial, to be held this year in Kerala along the lines of the famed Venice Biennale. Dubbed the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, it’s being promoted as India’s biggest ever display of contemporary visual art. Also on the agenda are workshops and seminars that will be open to the public.
India’s historical and cultural heritage will also be on display, given the location of the exhibition. In fact, Muziris—which preceded Kochi (or Cochin) as an ancient seaport—is an important archeological site in the subcontinent. Last year was the first time India was featured at the Venice Biennale. Does this mean art lovers who cruised in the canals of Venice will make a beeline for Kerala’s backwaters? Wait till December for the answer.Enjoyed reading Khabar magazine?
