Subhankar Mukherjee wins 3rd place in world pool tournament
It’s been dubbed “the Greatest Pool Tournament in the World.” The Billiard Congress of America’s BCAPL World Championships were held in July, from the 21st to the 24th. Subhankar Mukherjee was among the over 5,500 participants from around the world. He played in the open ball 8-ball singles category, and walked away with a trophy after he won third place.
Reflecting on the self-taught Mukherjee’s passion for pool, his daughter Eesha notes, “Perhaps it was the charm of the angles and math and physics behind it all, or maybe it was just the thrill of playing a game the whole world seemed to know for hundreds of years.” Along with her mother and sister, she accompanied him to Las Vegas, where they were shocked by the sheer size: “My dad took us on a tour around the rooms and each room had hundreds upon hundreds of pool tables set up in rows.”
There are more than 500 BCAPL-sanctioned leagues in over eight countries with a total membership exceeding 50,000. The BCAPL was created in 1978 as a means to unify independent leagues around the world.
