Sonam Vashi wins the Atlanta Press Club Award of Excellence for Investigative Reporting

Sonam Vashi won the Atlanta Press Club Award of Excellence for Investigative Reporting. She won the award for her story with Atlanta Magazine and Type Investigations, “What will it take for APD to change the way it polices itself?” Vashi is an award-winning freelance journalist in Atlanta having written for The New York Times, Atlanta magazine, ProPublica, The Washington Post, National Geographic and several others. She grew up in Norcross, Georgia, in an Indian-American community and writes about criminal justice, immigration and the metro Atlanta region. She cofounded Canopy Atlanta, a new community-powered journalism nonprofit that chooses, reports and presents stories with local residents.
