Prashanth Kumar honored in Atlanta INtown's “20 Under 20”
Prashanth Kumar, a junior at Pace Academy, is also one of Atlanta INtown's 2016 ‘20 Under 20’ honorees. Prashanth has traveled to Tirunelveli India the past four summers to volunteer at Galaxy Hospital and Kidney Care Center, where he translates for doctors during procedures and helps comfort patients. This work also led to hosting blood drives in the small town and other places in India. He also volunteers as a middle-school math tutor, lower-school chess team counselor, peer tutor at Pace’s Academic Resource Center, and Tamil teacher for children every Sunday at the Alpharetta Tamil School. In addition to his service work, he is secretary of the student body, a student ambassador, and a member of the varsity tennis team, math team, PASS, and the Pace Academy Board of Diversity. He also got perfect SAT score of 2400 in his first attempt.
“Going to volunteer in India solidified my aspiration to be a doctor, as it is clearly a job that would immensely change the lives of any community, he says. “[The trips] nourish my internal drive to help make the world one in which all people, irrespective of what country they are in, have the same chance to thrive.”
