Mili Raina First Place Winner in State Bridge Championship
Mili Raina, a 10-year-old student at Ocee Elementary School in Fulton County, shared the top honors in a recent bridge tournament. She and her partner, Zandy Rizzo, won the Georgia State Championship Youth Open Pairs at the Atlanta sectional. With a 65 percent game, they edged out the top pairs in a close championship.
Mili started playing bridge more than a year ago as part of the curriculum in an advanced math program. As the reigning chess champion at her school, she had no trouble when she started playing bridge. "I used to think it was just a game, but it turned out to be more like math and more fun," she's been quoted as saying. "It made me smarter – I can figure out if the king or queen is in someone's hand by counting the points?there is a lot of mental math."
