Atlanta’s Kruti Dancers a Hit on America’s Got Talent
October 2010
Eighteen advanced students from Atlanta’s Kruti Dance
Academy were popular on the America’s Got Talent TV show this summer. They
performed in Orlando, Florida, for the regional auditions and went on to Las
Vegas as one of the top 100 acts out of the initial 100,000. In Vegas, although
judge Piers Morgan voted for them, the other two judges did not—but wait, all
was not over! As team lead and Kruti choreographer Shemoni Parekh was preparing
for her wedding, the call came: they had been invited to perform in the Wild
Card Show of the top 48 acts. Shemoni postponed her honeymoon, and they went to
Hollywood to perform, and to hear judge Sharon Osborne say that Kruti Dance
could now compete with River Dance! As Shemoni noted on the show, “We are so
thankful for living in a country where different cultures are not only accepted,
they are appreciated.”
