Keshvee wins Broadcom Coding with Commitment Award
April 2024
Keshvee Sekhda, a 14-yearold freshman at North Gwinnett High School, has been awarded the Broadcom Coding with Commitment Award, which comes with a $10,000 cash prize. Chosen for the award from among the 30 finalists of the Thermo Fisher Junior Innovator’s Challenge, a nationwide STEM contest, Keshvee has received it for her project, which is an app that helps diagnose and treat cancer. “It uses fractal geometry and machine learning and different algorithms in order to provide patients with cancer diagnosis and treatment for breast, lung, and skin cancer, and this year we are adding brain cancer and pancreatic cancer as well,” she notes. Judges from across the country reviewed around 2,000 applications to choose the top 300 middle school scientists. Ultimately, out of 60,000 projects from all over the country, a panel of judges picked Keshvee’s project as the winner.
