Dr. Sheth is known worldwide as an authority in marketing and international business. He has published more than 200 articles and a large number of books, the latest of which, Chindia Rising: How China and India Will Benefit Your Business, was on display at the recent Emerging India Summit. He has also started several nonprofit organizations.
“I cannot think of a more deserving individual,” said Professor Philip Kotler of the Kellogg School of Management, another finalist for the award along with Professor Michael Porter of Harvard Business School. “Professor Sheth has published many books and articles on a wide range of management and marketing topics. All of his writing is thoughtful, provocative, and impactful.… He will truly reflect the qualities that the Birla award exemplifies.”
Mr. Ratan Tata commented, "It is befitting that the maiden Global Management Guru Award of your institute is to be conferred on Professor Jagdish Sheth," and Mr. Azim Premji (chairman of Wipro) said, “ Dr. Jagdish Sheth has been a leading thinker in the area of global competition, marketing strategy and customer relationship management. His knowledge of emerging markets and consumer behavior have helped enterprises develop effective strategies in the new globalised world."
“This Award is both a surprise and an honor,” Sheth said. “On the one hand, it is a privilege for me to be among the list of nominated people. They are all world class, and on the other hand because the recognition comes from both Indian and global audience, this recognition is a milestone to a journey that is forever. One needs to take a pause once in a while to reflect on what one has achieved, what impact it has had in the world and also to celebrate.”
