Emory University launches Diabetes Translational Accelerator
Emory University has launched the Diabetes Translational Accelerator (DTA) to aid with diabetes prevention and awareness. The DTA program will promote innovation in diabetes research by offering students mentorship and access to Emory’s entrepreneurial systems to help them create startups. The program will help students with licensing agreements to ensure the products that emerge from their entrepreneurship can be implemented in preventing, diagnosing, and treating diabetes. The DTA program depends partly on the Lakshan Foundation Inc.’s Lakshmi and Subramonian Shankar Fellowship, which offers Emory PhD students stipends and insurance so that they can convert their dissertation research into entrepreneurial opportunities. The Shankar Innovation Fund allows fellows who are part of the DTA program to use their research to create market-ready products.
