Dr. and Mrs. Balu receive Fine Chocolate Industry Association award
Mrs. Andal Balu, on behalf of CocoaTown LLC, received an award in January 2013 for “Innovation in Fine Chocolate Products” from the Fine Chocolate Industry Association. CocoaTown was founded in Roswell by Dr. Balu M. Balasubramanian and Andal Balu in 2009 to fill the void for small and medium scale chocolate processing machines.
While the microbrewery industry and coffee industry have enjoyed progress in the past 20 years in making microscale specialty products, the chocolate industry did not progress due to multiple steps in the process and lack of standardized available machinery. CocoaTown has innovated a series of machines, enabling “chocopreneurs” and artisan chocolatiers from around the world to create and run thriving businesses with moderate investment, and is working on introducing cocoa beans from India.
