Travel and tourism is a vital segment of the U.S. economy, employing 8.2 million people and generating $1.3 trillion in annual spending, or nearly 3 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP). The industry is among the top employers in more than half of U.S. states and territories.
“Those of us in the travel and tourism industry have a profoundly important role in the financial health of our country, especially in creating the jobs that are needed to spur our recovery and growth,” C.K. Patel said. “That’s why it’s a special honor—and responsibility—to give hoteliers a voice at this high-profile level of deliberation and decision-making.”
C.K. Patel has considerable experience in the hospitality industry and business community, including successful hotel ownership since 1982 and the founding of two community banks in Georgia. He is president of Atlanta-based BVM Holdings, which owns and operates hotels as well as commercial real estate investments.
Based in Atlanta, the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) is among the hotel industry’s leading groups, with more than 10,000 members who together own more than 20,000 hotels with a combined market value of almost $130 billion.
