Asmee Sharma wins writing award in kindergarten
Asmee Sharma, who wrote a piece titled "My Family BBQ,” has been selected as the Gwinnett County Public Schools district kindergarten winner. Asmee was awarded the Young Georgia Authors Award for Kindergarten on March 22, 2012 by Dr. Alicia McCartney. Her prose piece will go on to the state level Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition. Asmee’s school is planning to recognize Asmee at the school and the news appeared at the Gwinnett Daily Post on April 02, 2012.
Although Asmee is still a Kindergarten student at Jackson Elementary School, she has a great interest in writing and reading, and writes and creates her own books. Her brother Adit is a great inspiration to her: most of her writings have him as central character. Her mom Anar Sharma works full time but spends time reading with Asmee daily, which has contributed towards Asmee's thinking and success.
Asmee's interest in writing was recognized and encouraged by her teacher, Mrs. Berger, as she noticed the diversity of topics Asmee can write on and how clearly she can express herself. As her father says, "Her family, teacher, school principal, and friends are extremely proud of her achievement."
