Anant Honkan receives national award for excellence in teaching
In late May, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas, Anant Honkan was honored along with other engineers by the National Institute for Social and Organizational Development, commonly known as NISOD. A professor of mechanical engineering at Georgia Perimeter College, Honkan is currently based in Clarkston, Ga. Before moving to the United States, where he pursued his doctoral studies at New York University, Honkan had taught engineering in Kingston, Jamaica. A native of Karnataka, Honkan's first job as an engineer was with the B & C Department in Maharashtra. Since its inception in 1978, NISOD has emphasized the importance of teaching and leadership excellence in institutions of higher learning. It has worked to engage teachers and leaders through conferences, publications, web services, partnerships, programs, and more. Selection criteria for the national award for excellence in teaching are at the discretion of each institution.
