A proud moment for cricket in Atlanta
After commendable performances by Japen Patel and Anand Tummala helped the Atlanta Georgia Cricket Conference (AGCC) become champions of the Southeast Region, both cricketers have received further honors.
Japen Patel (pictured above) of Canton, GA was selected to play on the USA National Cricket Team at the T20 tournament held in Florida, July 18-23, 2011. This was the first time someone from the Atlanta league was selected for a national team. Japen picked up the game in his mid-teens and has made steady progress. He attended a cricket camp in India organized by the World Cricket Academy and joined the Rajasthan Royals training camp for three months. And now he has earned the recognition of playing in an International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament.
Anand Tummala has been twice selected to play on the USA National Cricket Team. This time he played in the T20 Etihad Summer Cricket Festival and the historic Auty Cup (this 2-day contest between the U.S. and Canada in Toronto dates back to 1844). He has played for North Atlanta Cricket Club in the AGCC, and in the South East Region of USA Cricket Association (USACA). He played Ranji Trophy for Delhi in 2001-2 and is a Certified England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Level II Cricket Coach. He was recently honored by the Telugu Association of Metro Atlanta (TAMA) at its 30th celebrations.
