The Love Commandos
The Love Commandos—they may have a flashy name, but they’re just a “group of aging businessmen and journalists” in New Delhi, as BBC writer Anu Anand describes them. Their mission: to provide shelter and support to couples whose love relationships have drawn the ire of family members or others. The Love Commandos operate a helpline, and the image of a commando reassures people that they’ll be protected, says cofounder Sanjoy Sachdev.
“Falling in love (in India) is not easy, but more couples are choosing to brave the consequences,” Anand writes. “For the Commandos, love is war.”
Things are different in America, of course. Almost all marriages are love marriages. And couples who have arranged marriages don’t need protection—at least not from a group of aging businessmen and journalists calling themselves The Arranged Commandos.
