Indian Brooms Display Nutrition Facts
A photo of Indian brooms with a plastic wrapper displaying “nutrition facts” has been shared widely online, creating plenty of amusement.
According to the nutrition facts, the broom has 15 servings of 150 calories each, with 10 grams of fat, 2 grams of fiber and 1 gram of protein.
“Not enough protein. Wouldn’t recommend,” quipped a Reddit user. Added another: “Fiber content is underquoted.” Others joked that their mothers had hit them with brooms to help them lose 150 calories each time.
One commenter on Reddit asked a perceptive question: “Wait, did a random recycled plastic from America make it to some random broom manufacturer in India?”
That certainly appears to have happened, though it may be more deliberate than random. It’s likely a case of plastic bags being reused rather than wasted—bags that were perhaps misprinted or overproduced.
As an article in Mint noted, the bags are identical to the ones used for Juantonio’s tortilla chips, produced by Dominguez Family Enterprises in Hood River, Oregon. The ingredients include yellow stone ground corn, canola oil, salt, and a trace of lime.
Hopefully the ingredients have not tempted anybody in India to taste the brooms.
