Good Sports: QUALITY HIRE FOR THE BEARS
If you needed to make a list of Indian-Americans working in “quality control,” you’d have a gargantuan task on your hand. But if you add just one filter to the list—“professional football”—you’d probably have to write only one name: Sean Desai.
Desai, 30, was recently hired by the Chicago Bears as defensive quality control coach, as reported by India West. He once aspired to be a medical doctor but was instead drawn to teaching, earning a Ph.D. in educational administration from Temple University in Philadelphia. The former high school football player became involved in Temple’s football program while studying there and working as an adjunct professor. He served in a variety of roles, including special teams coordinator, before moving to University of Miami where he became assistant director of football operations.
Now he’s going to help new Bears head coach Marc Trestman prepare for each opponent through statistical analysis and film study. It’s a far cry from being a medical doctor, but Desai isn’t complaining, especially since the Bears have a pretty strong defense and Desai, hopefully, won’t be called upon to resuscitate it.
