GOOD SPORTS: OUTTHINKING THE COMPETITION
February 2012
Ayush Menon of New Jersey is only 10 and already a champion. He won the under-11 boys title at the recent Junior U.S. Open Squash Championship at Harvard University, defeating Omar El Torkey of Egypt in the final.
“It was a proud moment for all of us,” Ayush’s father, Ullaas Menon, told Press Trust of India (PTI).
Menon, an investment banking executive on Wall Street, has served as Ayush’s coach and mentor. Ayush spends a couple of hours training each day, partly with a ball machine. “Squash is more about brain than brawn,” Menon said.
That might explain why the championships were held at Harvard University.Compiled and partly written by Indian humorist MELVIN DURAI, author of the novel Bala Takes the Plunge.
