GOOD SPORTS: Advani Snookers Them All
May 2012
If you haven’t heard of Pankaj Advani, then you probably don’t follow the sport of English billiards. Advani is the Kobe Bryant of his sport—though Bryant could only dream of making so many brilliant shots in a row.
At only 26, Advani has won seven world titles in billiards and snooker, and recently defeated Thawat Sujaritthurakarn of Thailand 6-3 to claim his fifth Asian crown.
Advani, whose titles were mostly at the amateur level, may eventually eclipse the feats of another Indian player, Geet Sethi, who has won five professional world titles, the last in 2006.
So next time you see the headline “Advani Back on Top Again,” don’t assume that it’s L.K. who has done the snookering.
