Good Sports: YOUTHS ASCEND TABLE TENNIS RANKINGS
Two youths of Indian descent are among the top three players in the latest Under-18 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) world rankings.
At No. 1 is 17-year-old Manav Thakkar, the first Indian to ever achieve the top ranking. “It’s a great feeling and I’m unable to express it in words,” Thakkar told Times of India.
At No. 3 in the rankings is Kanak Jha, also 17, an Indian-American who won three gold medals at the 2017 Pan American Junior Championships and was the youngest player to represent the United States at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Thakkar won a silver medal last month at the 2018 ITTF World Junior Circuit Finals at Luxembourg. Who won the gold medal? None other than Jha.
