Good Sports: U.S. Qualifies for World Cup Qualifier
The United States is one stage closer to qualifying for the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India. The U.S. finished on top of the points table at the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, losing only one match in a six-team, round-robin tournament that included Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and Namibia.
Along with UAE, the U.S. will now compete in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, a 10- team tournament that will be played in June and July in Zimbabwe. The top two teams will qualify for the World Cup, but with a field that includes Sri Lanka, West Indies, Netherlands, and Zimbabwe, the U.S. is a long shot to advance.
“It is a great feeling to be able to progress to the qualifiers in Zimbabwe,” said U.S. captain Monank Patel. “Even though we see this as a big accomplishment for USA Cricket, we the players also know that it is going to require lots of improvements for us to compete with the bigger teams.”
