Good Sports: Tennis Legend Hopes to Make Sports More Accessible
Leander Paes, the 18-time grand slam doubles champion, recently announced a partnership with the Kolkata-based Shrachi Group to develop sports facilities and provide sports gear, giving millions of children the opportunity to play sports.
“Ninety-nine per cent of children in India don’t get to play sports because of the lack of facilities, kits and other shortages,” Paes said. “We want to change that.”
The partnership will pursue sport-themed projects, including the development of housing complexes with attached sports facilities. The facilities would be open to residents as well as the public at large. “We want to use sports as a vehicle to create a healthy environment and ecosystem for our country,” Paes said.
