Good Sports: Tanvi Patri Crowned Asian U-15 Champion
Could 13-year-old Tanvi Patri of Odisha follow in the footsteps of Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu and become a top female badminton player? Her family and coaches certainly hope so, and she’s building a strong foundation through her training at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) and performances at top tournaments.
Tanvi recently won a gold medal at the Badminton Asia U-15 junior championships in Chengdu, China. Seeded No. 1, she didn’t drop a single game in five matches. In the final against secondseeded Thi Thu Huyen Nguyen of Vietnam, she trailed 11-17 in the first game, but came back to win 22-20, 21-11.
“She reminds me of Sindhu when she was young,” Vimal Kumar, director of PPBA, told PTI. “The ability to win matches at a young age is a good sign. She has a long way to go, and with her temperament, she has potential.”
