Good Sports: Super Giants Snag Rishabh Pant with Massive Bid
Almost 600 cricket players registered for the IPL’s recent two-day mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the top deal went to wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. Lucknow Super Giants bid 27 crore ($3.18 million) to sign Pant, former captain of the Delhi Capitals. Pant had played for Delhi since 2016, but according to new head coach Hemang Badani, the 27-year-old wanted to test the market, believing he could get more than the highest cap for a retained player (18 crore).
“At the end of the day, he felt he was worth more,” Badani said, speaking on former cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath’s YouTube channel. “And the market said the same thing. He got 27 crore. Good for him. He is a very good player. We will obviously miss him. But life goes on.”
