Good Sports: Rohit Sharma Appointed ODI Captain
Rohit Sharma has been appointed India’s ODI captain, taking over from Virat Kohli. The BCCI announced the decision in a media release, saying that Sharma should take charge of the ODI and T20I teams “going forward.”
“I’m deeply honoured and grateful for the opportunity,” Sharma said in an interview posted on the BCCI website. “It’s a huge responsibility. I’m absolutely happy about it. I look forward to leading team India in white ball cricket.”
Sharma, who has played 227 ODIs and 119 T20Is to date, gave credit to Kohli, saying “he is still a leader of the team.” Kohli had been ODI captain for four years and achieved a win percentage of 70.43, making him one of India’s most successful ODI captains.
