Good Sports: Ram Wins Third Straight U.S. Open Doubles Title
Indian American tennis player Rajeev Ram and his partner, Joe Salisbury of Britain, won the men’s doubles title at the 2023 U.S. Open, their third straight championship at the grand slam tournament.
No other men’s doubles team had won three consecutive U.S. Open titles since 1914.
Ram and Salisbury lost the first set in the final to India’s Rohan Bopanna and Australia’s Matthew Ebden, but fought back to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Ram, 34, who hails from Carmel, Indiana, thanked his partner of five years during the trophy ceremony. “It hasn’t been the best of seasons, but we stuck it out, put in a lot of hard work and just kept believing,” he said.
Ram now has six major titles, including three Australian Open doubles titles, as well as a silver medal in mixed doubles from the 2016 Summer Olympics.
