Good Sports: PARA-ATHLETE WINS GOLD
Losing her left leg in a car accident didn’t stop Manasi Joshi from competing in sports. The Mumbai engineer, 30, won a gold medal in singles in the SL3 category final at the recent Para-Badminton World Championships in Basel, Switzerland.
Joshi, who has a prosthetic leg, defeated fellow Indian Parul Parmar, a three-time world champion, in the final of the SL3 category, intended for players impaired in one or both lower limbs.
“I never thought I will progress in the field of sports,” Joshi told The Hindu. “I got into it for my personal growth, and it took me to a level where I am representing my country now.”
