Good Sports : ODISHA FC HIRES EXECUTIVE FROM BRITAIN
Odisha FC, one of the 11 clubs competing in the Indian Super League (ISL), has hired Raj Athwal as club president. The British Indian has more than 25 years’ experience with clubs in the U.K., including Coventry and Watford in England, and the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland.
“My parents came over in the early ‘60s and so my whole ancestry is from India. When I am speaking to family out there, there is always that feeling of pride, that connection,” Athwal told Sky Sports.
Formerly known as the Delhi Dynamos, Odisha FC came into existence in 2019. Gerry Peyton of Ireland is the current head coach and the roster includes six players from abroad.
“Having engaged in a number of open and honest conversations with the club’s owners, I also found their infectious passion and the vision for Odisha extremely impressive,”Athwal said.
