Good Sports: Neeraj Chopra wins gold Again
A year after becoming the first Indian to win an Olympic gold medal in a track and field event, Neeraj Chopra cemented his place among India’s sports legends when he became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.
After fouling his first throw, Chopra reached 88.17 meters on his second attempt, securing the top spot at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Arshad Nadeem claimed the silver medal with a throw of 87.82, giving Pakistan its first medal ever at the World Championships, and the Czech Republic’s Yakub Vadlejch won bronze (86.67). Chopra’s compatriots Kishore Kumar Jena and D.P. Manu finished fifth and sixth respectively, giving India three of the top six positions.
“I am proud to bring another title to my country,” Chopra said.
