Good Sports: LOVE MATCH FOR AMRITRAJ
Tennis fans may feel a little nostalgic if they see the name “Amritraj” in the world rankings again.
Vijay Amritraj was a top singles tennis player in the ’70s and ’80s, reaching the quarterfinals at grand slam events four times. He and his brother Anand were also a highly ranked doubles team.
The “Amritraj” name has returned to prominence through the recent marriage of Anand’s son, Stephen, a former professional tennis player, to current pro Alison Riske.
Now known as Alison Riske-Amritraj, she reached her first grand slam quarterfinal at this year’s Wimbledon championship and is ranked No. 37 in the world.
Sharing a video of herself performing a Bollywood dance at her wedding, she tweeted, “Officially an Amritraj! I’m the luckiest lady because of @stephenamritraj!”
