Good Sports: India's Pickleball Players Win 10 Medals at U.S. Open
A team of 11 pickleball players from India won 10 medals in various nonprofessional categories at the recent U.S. Open Pickleball Championships in Naples, Florida.
Stavya Bhasin, 16, won four medals, including a gold in junior boys singles, a silver in men’s doubles, and bronze in junior boys doubles and junior mixed doubles.
Bhasin’s doubles partner, Ronav Motiani, 18, took home three medals, including silver in junior boys singles. Another impressive performer, Dhiren Patel, won gold for his age group (40 to 49) at the highest skill level for amateurs (5.0).
“This is without a doubt one of the biggest pickleball championships in the world and to be able to come back with 10 medals is testament to the growth of serious pickleball talent in India,” Hemal Jain, who won a gold medal in his category (age 40 to 49, skill level 3.5), told IANS.
