Good Sports: India Wins 29 Medals at Paralympic Games
Indian athletes brought home 29 medals from the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, surpassing their previous best performance by 10 medals.
India won seven gold, nine silver and 13 bronze medals, almost doubling the country’s all-time medal count from the Paralympic Games. India has participated in 12 editions of the Paralympics and won 60 medals, including 19 at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Out of the 29 medals won in Paris, 17 were achieved in athletics, including Sumit Antil’s and Navdeep Singh’s gold medals in javelin, Praveen Kumar’s gold in high jump, and Dharambir Nain’s gold in club throw. The other gold medalists were Avani Lekhara in women’s 10m air rifle standing, Nitesh Kumar in men’s singles badminton, and Harvinder Singh in archery (men’s individual recurve open).
The Indian government announced cash awards of ₹75 lakhs for gold medalists, ₹50 lakhs for silver medalists and ₹30 lakhs for bronze medalists.
