Good Sports: HALL OF FAME NOMINEE
Sunil Gulati, who served as president of the United States Soccer Federation from 2006 to 2018, is among nine nominees in the builder category for the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Gulati was elected president of the USSF in 2006 and re-elected in 2008 and 2012. Early last year, he announced that he wouldn’t be seeking a fourth term.
The Allahabad-born Gulati, 59, who teaches economics at Columbia University, helped foster the immense growth of soccer in America and was instrumental in the formation of a professional women’s soccer league in 2012.
Former coaches and media members will vote on the Hall of Fame nominees. Those who receive at least 66.7 percent of the vote will be inducted this September into the National Soccer Hall of Fame, located in Frisco, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.
