Good Sports: GOLDEN GIRL SCOUT
Sakshi Satpathy, a 16-year-old senior at Henry M. Gunn High School in Palo Alto, Calif., was recently named one of 10 recipients of the 2018 National Gold Award from Girl Scouts of the USA. Sakshi was recognized for her efforts to combat human trafficking and child marriage.
The Bangalore-born teen has produced three documentary films (screened in 15 countries) and a training curriculum to rehabilitate girls who have been trafficked, as well as a website and YouTube playlists.
“I was always passionate about women’s rights,” she told NPR. “I would read news reports about trafficking and child marriage, and they always left me with a bad feeling.”
